Project summary
The Coast2Coast project aims to solve the urgent problem of plastic pollution, especially in coastal areas. The initiative understands the urgency of acting to lessen the impact of plastic waste on the environment, as it poses a serious threat that has been made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to raise awareness of environmental protection and support efforts to maintain clean beaches and oceans by planning voluntary coastal cleanups. Situated in Thessaloniki, a coastal city endowed with an abundance of natural resources, the project is in line with the European Solidarity Corps’ goal of addressing environmental and climate change issues.
Coast2Coast aims to address societal challenges related to environmental protection, sustainability, and climate goals while promoting environmentally sustainable behavior among young people through a series of activities, such as webinars, expert knowledge sharing, and coastal cleanup events.
Coastal cleanup events are the focal point of the Coast2Coast project’s activities and the primary means of accomplishing its goals. Young people can take an active role in addressing plastic pollution and its effects on coastal ecosystems by participating in these cleanups. Furthermore, the project integrates educational elements, including webinars on topics like sea litter, climate change, and safety protocols during cleanup operations. The project promotes civic engagement and active participation in society while also increasing awareness of environmental issues by involving young people in these kinds of activities.
